Stain Cabinets

So we decided against the rustoleum cabinet makeover. It gives the cabinets a painted look and we want to keep the grain showing so we’re going to get estimates for a professional to strip, sand, and stain them. This isn’t going to happen anytime soon I imagine (like within the next few months) and then I saw this picture:

Holy mother of kitchens! I am in love. I was loving the rich honey cabinets with the neutral wall color so I decided on a Gray Beige color for the kitchen. It’s literally called Gray Beige and it’s from Olympic. When we put the first coat on it looked yellow. No gray. Just beige. Since paint dries (usually) darker we decided to paint one wall with two coats and let it dry. It looked so bad. So, Josh mixed in some gray paint that we had left over from our full bathroom and all was good. Our kitchen still looks nothing like that picture but I like the paint color so much better than the old sage green. When I walk into the kitchen I don’t even miss the green. It looks…how it’s supposed to look. We still don’t like our orange-y cabinets but we’re stuck with it until we find a professional to refinish our cabinets.

Here is a picture of our new table and chairs and the paint color:

A simple family table and fresh neutral paint. Still lots more to do but this is a good start for the new year. You will have to excuse my terrible photo’s. We’re on the hunt for a new camera and tripod.
