We have been slowly making over our living room for awhile now and it’s starting to come together. The room is small and wall space for a sofa is limited, add two arm chairs to that and you’ve got to be creative when planning furniture layout.
Here is what the room looked like when we first looked at the house:
Ugly Maroon, stinky carpet, yucky trim, weird light switch covers. It was just bad.
Here it is in it’s current state (in progress):
We painted the existing trim and added baseboard trim, painted the walls, and ripped out the carpeting and refinished the floors. The stairs are a work in progress. Soon we will have a railing there, I promise. I’m working on finding fabric for the pillows. I think I’ve tracked down what I want. We’re going for a layered kind of look, I guess. I found old printers trays on craigslist so we hung them over the sofa, and that thing hanging over the chair is maybe a part from a lace machine (I took it from an old lace factory), I think it needs to be hung lower. The rest of the stuff is furniture that we had or were given except for the coffee table. Josh made the coffee table while on vacation from his job. We got the idea from a design magazine my best friend brought back from a trip to Iceland. The magazine is in Icelandic (Is that what you would call their language?) so I can’t reference it. Sorry.
Here is a better look at the table and that’s our doggie, Olive:
We went ahead and ‘sort of’ crossed one of our kitchen updates off the list. We bought a new kitchen table… off the internet… it’s getting returned within the next few days. Josh put the thing all together and it is super tiny! It looked like a child’s play table (and we already have one of those). If we get a new table then that will be my next post.
